When sowing a lawn, great care should be taken to prepare the groundwork. Start by removing all debris and weeds from the lawn area. After that, the land is dug to a depth of at least 25 cm, carefully selecting the remaining weeds, you can use the means of weeds, such as Lontrål, Raoundap, Hurricane, etc.
After the use of herbicides, sowing of seeds is possible not earlier than two weeks later. Before sowing, the entire area must be carefully leveled out and then rolled out with a special lawn roller.
It is recommended that a layer of pre-screened soil mixed with sand in equal proportions (thickness not less than 5 -10 cm) should be applied over the planned ground. After the topsoil has been filled up, the area is carefully planned and rerolled by a roller. It is necessary to apply necessary mineral and organic fertilizers (nitroammophoska 2-3 kg/100m2, biohumus 20-40 kg/100m2). The lawn level should be 1.5-2 cm below the track level. After all, during heavy rains the paths should not get dirt.
How to set up a lawn
How to set up a lawn. The best period for sowing is from April to early June and at the end of summer – the beginning of autumn. The lawn is sown in dry, windless and not too hot weather. Lawn seeds are purchased at the rate of 3-4 kg per 100 m2 + 5-10% of the total amount in the reserve for possible sowing. The variety composition of grasses in the mixture is selected depending on the purpose of the lawn. Sowing is carried out manually or with the help of a sowing machine. If you prefer to sow by hand, divide the seeds into four equal parts and sow them on four sides: 1/4 along the plot, 1/4 in the opposite direction, 1/4 from left to right, 1/4 from right to left. When sowing with the seed drill, divide the seeds into two equal parts and sow longitudinally and transversally. It is recommended that the seeds are mixed thoroughly before sowing. Together with the seeds, apply some fertiliser, e.g. nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium, to ensure that the germinating seeds begin to grow well. After sowing the lawn, it is advisable to carefully place the seeds in the soil with a rake and roll them again. Do not roll the lawn in damp soil. Leave the lawn in this condition. Another operation called “mulching” can be carried out. For mulching it is necessary to use soil that has been sieved through a sieve (rabbitza net). Sow the sown and rolled-out lawn area by hand evenly and evenly with a thin layer of sown soil up to 1 cm thick. Mulching requires skills from the performer, so you can limit yourself to the operations described above. Then the lawn is carefully watered with sprinkling method, trying to avoid washout. After that, the lawn should ideally not dry out at all. After sowing, the lawn is watered daily and several times, otherwise the grass will rise unhindered. Sometimes a good lawn is formed in some areas, and on others the grass grows weak, but a lot of weeds. This is due to the lack of moisture and its uneven distribution in the soil layer. Where there is a lack of moisture, weeds successfully compete with the grass, outpacing it in growth and development. If there is a danger of drying out the lawn, it is covered with a bag or a special material – a spondom – or similar to it before the emergence of shoots. Nowadays, automatic watering of lawns is gaining popularity. If the area of the green zone is more than three hundredths of a hectare, we strongly recommend to install an automatic watering system on the site.
Poor watering is especially harmful when patching seeds and for young shoots. Swollen seeds and seeds that have begun to germinate without receiving the necessary amount of moisture simply die, and young shoots are constantly under stress due to water scarcity, yellowing and eventually die too.
In the modern world, a beautiful landscaping of a private house is impossible without a well-groomed lawn. It is necessary at least once a week to carry out measures on care of your green cover. Quite often, customers lay down their rolled lawns to force the events.
Each owner wants to have a beautiful well-groomed lawn. After all, this is often considered the pride of the owner of a private home. To do this, you must mow the lawn.
The first mowing of the lawn is carried out at a height of 6-8 cm, cutting it in half. Later on, it is recommended to mow the lawn once a week and cut not more than 3-4 cm of grass (one third of the total height). In May and the first half of July it is advisable to mow once every 4-5 days. And in no case should the grass be allowed to occur.
Be sure to remove the mown grass from the lawn, left on the lawn, even in small pockets, it starts to decompose very quickly, and decomposing remains of grass will cause either a yellowing of the grass cover under the pile, in the worst case – the complete destruction of the cover.
It is also necessary to aerate or scarify the green cover several times a year.
Also do not forget about fertilizers for lawn. Use specially selected fertilisers to ensure that your lawn is always in perfect condition. Fertilise the grass at least three times a year: in early spring, at the beginning and end of summer. Last feeding makes it a low-nitrogen fertiliser.
